Why does Quora limit my question details to 300 characters?

Quora does not currently limit question details to 300 characters in the same way it did in the past. As of August 2017, Quora discontinued the use of question details altogether and replaced them with an optional source URL input field. This change was made to encourage users to phrase questions more descriptively and to emphasize "canonical" questions.

Before this change, in December 2015, question details were limited to 800 characters, but this feature was eventually removed1.
